Beginning Again: A New Chapter in Art Blogs

Updated: Jan 16

I'm pretty good at writing new chapters. I have always wanted to write a book, and I have had ideas for, and started so many, that I always say: if you could make a book out of first chapters, I'd probably have several ready to go.

Nicola is photographed from above, bending over a painting of a blue eggshell. Her desk is littered with paints, tea and various utensils.
Me and my art

But this is not about writing a book.

This is about writing a blog.

Yes, I haven't been on here in a while. Yes, it has taken me this long to get my head together after having my first baby and after a nightmare of a pregnancy. Yes, I have been procrastinating and sticking my head in the sand and hoping my blogs and newsletters will magically write themselves. No, they did not magically write themselves. And so, here I am. Back at the keyboard. Starting a new chapter. Again.

After all, I've not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

It is all in the willingness to try again.

So, coming up on the blog in a (hopefully) timely fashion, each Friday lunchtime, just in time for you to grab a cup of tea, actually take a lunch break, and kick your feet up on the last day of the working week, will be a series of blog posts on things like inspiration, selling your work online, how to create a custom map and starting a YouTube channel (I know - I have no idea if I'm going to do it or not either). I'm keeping to one post a week, because, honestly, I don't think I can deal with fancy timetables and second-guessing the internet whilst also dealing with a crazy little 11-month old and completing commissions - my brain just gets too full.

But, I've totally de-cluttered my house, been ruthless with my wardrobe, written myself a timetable of self-care activities, set aside time to work on my digital marketing each week, and bought a crap ton of courses from Domestika, and I'm willing to have another go because, as I said, it's all about having the courage to start again.
